Eclipse (2024) by Deanna Musgrave and Andrew Reed Miller
August 16, 2024 8pm - Saint John Arts Centre
Preceding the performance,, these two statements were made:
“Deanna asks that you contribute an ingredient for the structure she is building in the paint during the second part of the performance. Something energetic and floating in your heart space. It could be something heavy you are carrying. She invites you to feel calm in listening and watching while intending to release a piece of that energy into the structure with the hope you will leave lighter once the water comes in and cleanses. She dedicates this performance to the waters of our Saint John Port.”
“This piece is a continuation of a work we created in 2008 called Moon. Both titles refer generally to a cultural connection to water and tides. Special consideration is made to the water in the paint. Deanna Musgrave’s art is closely tied to the power of water and its relationship to experience and memory. The music you are going to hear makes use of very long and very dense multi-channel loops, first with aluminium chimes then with the contrabass. You will also hear some deeply harmonic material that might sound like some sort of cosmic lullaby.”
