Mark Takeshi McGregor, flutes; Greg Newsome electronics
Delve into haunting electroacoustic soundscapes and wild neo-noir glitch with “superhuman” flute virtuoso Mark Takeshi McGregor. Returning to New Brunswick with performances in Moncton and Saint John, McGregor presents a programme for flute and electronics, including the striking and much-celebrated Tarantino Études for bass flute and audio-video glitch—the most recent addition to the famed “Études” cycle by Montreal composer Nicole Lizée. The programme also features the Atlantic Canadian premieres of new works for flute and electronics by James O’Callaghan (BC/QC) and Gregory Lee Newsome (ON), as well as solo acoustic works by Hope Lee (AB) and Michael Oesterle (QC) — completing an all-Canadian program that weaves effortlessly between the virtuosic, the introspective, the macabre, the theatrical, the hilarious, and the all-out demented.
